Chili Cheese Dog with Jalapeno Onion Relish

In celebration of National Chili Dog Day, we wanted to add a recipe of our own!  This chili cheese dog recipe incorporates our Hickory Smokehouse Mushroom Jerky to add natural deep and complex flavors of barbecue cooking.

Ingredients
  • Vegan hot dogs 
  • Hot dog buns 
  • Hickory Smoked Chili (recipe follows) 
  • Queso (recipe follows) 
  • Jalapeno Onion Relish (recipe follows) 

Instructions

Steam or grill hot dogs and toast buns. Top with Hickory Smokehouse Chili, queso, and jalapeno onion relish.

Hickory Smokehouse Chili 

  • 1 pack Eat the Change Hickory Smokehouse Mushroom Jerky, chopped 
  • 8 oz Beyond Meat 
  • ½ cup ketchup 
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard 
  • 1 ½ tablespoons molasses 
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder 
  • 1 teaspoon paprika 
  • ½ cup water 
  • Salt and pepper to taste 

In large saute pan, brown Beyond Meat over medium heat. Add in remaining ingredients and cook for 3 minutes or until all ingredients are combined and liquid is reduced by about half. Serve immediately. 

Queso 

  • 1 cup oat milk 
  • ¼ cup nutritional yeast 
  • ½ cup raw almonds  
  • ½ cup raw, unsalted cashews  
  • 1 whole red bell pepperde-seeded 
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder 
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder 
  • 1 teaspoon chipotle powder 
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar 
  • Salt and pepper to taste  

Add liquid ingredients to blender first and then solids. Blend until smooth. 

Jalapeno Onion Relish 

  • ½  yellow onion, chopped 
  • 3 jalapenos, chopped (2 deseeded) 
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar 
  • 1 teaspoon cumin 
  • Salt and pepper to taste 

Add all ingredients to food processor and pulse until chopped into small pieces.
